A descendant of Hollywood and Broadway royalty, The Black L.A.B is the grandson of the legendary Johnny Brown—best known as Bookman from Good Times—and the son of John Brown Jr., a masterful musician, and an accomplished oil painter mother. Having traveled across Alaska, Thailand, and the East Coast, his life experiences have shaped a unique perspective and artistic evolution. With two self-produced albums, Relax, Everything’s Out of Control and Fruitions, The Black L.A.B continues to push creative boundaries, offering listeners a rich fusion of energy, emotion, and innovation. He has also released two EPs: Damage Control and The Great Disruptor.

His music offers a diverse sonic experience that appeals to a wide range of listeners, incorporating raw rock energy, smooth soulful melodies, and vibrant Latin rhythms into his tracks.
Levi Allen Brown, aka The Black L.A.B, is a product of a lineage steeped in artistic brilliance. He is the grandson of the late Johnny Brown—beloved actor, songwriter, and comedian best known for his iconic role as Bookman on Good Times—and the son of John Brown Jr., a talented musician whose artistry continues to inspire. His mother, a gifted oil painter, contributed to Levi's visually artistic upbringing, making creativity a way of life.
Growing up between Los Angeles and Paso Robles, Levi experienced a turbulent childhood that instilled in him a passion for poetry, storytelling, and self-expression. By high school, hip-hop became his calling, drawing inspiration from lyrical giants like Ludacris, Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Kendrick Lamar. While developing his music, he also honed skills in acting, directing, and production, making him a true multi-faceted artist.
After high school, The Black L.A.B’s journey led him to unexpected places—working as a zip-line guide in the rainforests of Alaska, traveling across Thailand, and eventually moving to Connecticut to further his music career. His travels, hardships, and experiences have shaped his sound and given him an international perspective, pushing him to explore themes of resilience, mental health, and cultural identity through his music.
